Within Task 2.2 of the SATURN project, our partners at TSI -Técnicas y Servicios de Ingeniería S.L., TNO, JASCO Applied Sciences collaborated with the National Physical Laboratory to develop a research paper for the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, where a new method to obtain propagation loss in shallow water is presented.

This method known as the smoothed semi-coherent image method (SSCI), is based on the seabed critical angle. The SSCI method has been implemented in the upcoming ISO 17208-3 standard, which is the ongoing ISO standard to measure URN from vessels in shallow water (expected to be issued in summer this year).
